BC vs ND Gamewatch Re-Cap!

Hello Friends and Supporter!

I apologize for the lapse in reporting here on all the fantastic Team Andy events. Below is a recap of the BC-ND Gamewatch fundraiser, written (somewhat biased-ly) by one of Maine’s finest sportswriters, Tom Minervino.  I would like to thank Tom for all his work in putting this together – I was personally blown away by both the attendance and the amount of money raised for Andy’s fund. A HUGE thank you to everyone who attended, supported and/or organized the event! Thank you also to the BC Club of Maine and ND Club of Maine for helping make this a reality. Despite the score, I had a great time there seeing all the BC alum, Cheverus staff & alum, and friends. Ok, even meeting the ND alum was nice.

“Close to 100 people packed the Cheverus High Alumni Room in Andy’s honor on October 24 to watch the Boston College-Notre Dame football game and raise money for the Andrew C. Marsh Memorial Fund.

The BC Club of Maine turned out in force and a number of hungry young men from the Western Maine champion Cape Elizabeth High football team also stopped by. There were, of course, a number of Andy’s friends, relatives, and former schoolmates and teachers. In all, $2,394 was raised for the Memorial Fund. Generous donations were made at the door, and Dan Hondo (Cheverus Class of ’99 and one of Portland’s Finest) won the 50-50 raffle and donated his entire winnings to the Memorial Fund.

The game itself turned out to be a doozy, even though the Eagles fans left disappointed with the final score, a 20-16 win for the Irish, as a -5 turnover margin proved a little too much for BC to overcome. The loss dropped BC to 6-1 in its last seven meetings with Notre Dame. The Eagles faithful can take solace in the fact that, following the game, they did not enter into an epic tailspin that has involved humiliating losses to Navy, UConn, Pitt, AND Stanford…

The game watch was made possible by Cheverus’ Brian Hallisey, who went above and beyond in helping to coordinate the event, get the room set up and also clean up the aftermath. He even donated some great items for the raffle.

Nappi Distributors donated 25 cases of beer, which those gathered put a hearty dent in. Craig Tribuno and Systems Engineering of Portland donated 32 racks of baby-back ribs, which Morgan Tribuno smoked to perfection in the parking lot. Samuel’s Bar and Grill provided several sheet pizzas, as well as some gift certificates that were raffled off. Binga’s Wingas sent over a load of wings free of charge.

The turnout and generosity exceeded all expectations. The plan is do make a BC game watch in Andy’s memory an annual event. Mark your calendars for October 2, 2010, when Notre Dame will be visiting Chestnut Hill. More details to come. We are looking to set up a committee for next year’s game watch, so if anyone is interested in helping out or has any ideas, please email Tom Minervino (”
